The question
A research team needed to assess therapists' preparedness to work with transgender clients in Colombia. A Spanish translation of an existing questionnaire needed evidence that its scores were meaningful in that setting.
The work
The team adapted and piloted the questionnaire, then studied responses from 453 mental health professionals. Nedim planned the analysis, examined how the questions grouped together, checked score consistency and validity, and helped interpret the findings.
What the study found
The published study supported a 21-item version with three factors and evidence of reliability and validity in the Colombian sample. The tool could help identify training needs; the study did not establish improved client outcomes or validity in every Spanish-speaking population.
When this kind of work helps
When a team develops, shortens or adapts a survey and needs evidence that the resulting scores support their intended use.
